Many new modes.

How wrong is it that my latest game design focuses on volunteer work and I'm actually excited by it?  I've been building various libraries with hopes for a procedurally generated adventure and I stumbled on an intermediary project to help test them out.  However, I think I'm too long gone to notice the sickness.

I suppose I can call it art if it lets me vent, right? ;)

This edited version of BYOND and Within comes to you from an unpaid volunteer using a game/development portal and software engine called BYOND.  The column focuses on recent developer activity.  Play suggestions are highlighted in the game list.

Within BYOND

Forum_account's digging platformer A Miner Adventure has been patched and updated.  The new Career mode offers some open-ended gathering of ore and upgrades.  The new Survival mode offers a deathmatch with observers.  Go earn some of the new medals and avatars as you listen to the music provided by Mr Waltz.

The Sidescroller library used in the project has also been updated with automated movement features.

IainPeregrine's writer's block is our gain as the cooperative action title Casual Quest received an unexpected update.  Subscribers will have access to a new class called the Revolutionary.  In addition, custom characters can be purchased and will be available through the card system.  Out of money?  There's still a new class you can try if you can figure out how to access it.

Among other changes, Silk Games' retro MORPG NEStalgia has shifted its character creation to an external server to decrease lag.  Game servers are taking advantage by merging for higher populations.  Some of those servers will soon offer open PvP combat.  Let the the results of the web comic contest give you something to chuckle at while you're being ganked. ;)

Unknown Person's tactical fantasy Ultimatum is once again featured.  It's multiplayer-only so grab a friend. =)

The Magic Man updated his turn-based fighter W-BAT.  Weapons were rebalanced and abilities were added to counter certain strategies.  The name still isn't final, but all of the features appear to be implemented.

Meanwhile, The Magic Man has returned to his competitive mining strategy Block Miners.  A server is being hosted as I type this and a download is available.

Yut Put has updated his science fiction horror Sirius.  The new mode sticks out.  Players, still combating the numerous NPC "Glitched", are split into teams tasked with reclaiming the bodies of lost comrades in a morbid form of capture the flag.

Magicbeast20 has updated the wave-based survival horror of Quarantine.  Animations, crawling zombies and a friendly NPC have been added.  The latter is a military guard that both kills zombies and revives players.

Falacy has again updated the treasure defense game GG: Tales of a King.  Among various bug fixes and display changes, a Spectate mode was added.  Play alone, play with others or just watch them fight.

I missed the earlier post, but The peoples republic of china's NOMADIC has retro beauty.  It's described as a dungeon crawler with roguelike combat and mechanics inspired by Dwarf Fortress.  A variety of humanoid races will be available.

Beyond BYOND

Did anyone else enjoy this bit of history from the 2005 World Cyber Games but end up wanting to give Artosis a hug?
