As it steps up publishing efforts, Warner Bros. has revealed its first post-EA Lord of the Rings game, the family-friendly LOTR: Aragorn's Quest, which will be making an appearance at E3 next month. Revealed as part of a larger email discussing all the 'first look' games to be shown at E3, the platforms for the new Lord Of The Rings game were not revealed, but the title is described as "the first Lord of the Rings video game created specifically for kids and their families." According to the information, the title will have "accessible gameplay set in a friendly, colorful rendition of Middle-Earth. Players assume the role of Strider and embark on his greatest quests from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The game offers authentic, action-oriented sword fighting, lancing and archery that all ages can play together." This information ties in with a recent report indicating that, after eight years of Electronic Arts holding the game rights to the Lord of the Rings films, the license has transferred to Warner Bros., which owns licensee New Line Cinema. With the main New Line film trilogy having completed more than five years ago, the franchise isn't at its top potential. However, New Line is producing a film version of Rings prequel The Hobbit, due in 2012 -- sure to receive multiple game adaptations. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has been making a concerted effort over the past several years to expand its game development and publishing efforts, and now fully owns Monolith Productions, TT Games (a.k.a. Traveller's Tales), and Snowblind Studios.
