Square Enix has announced Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes, a new strategy RPG exclusively for the iPod which uses a player's songs to generate new 'Tune Troopers' to battle an evil Mechanical Militia. The game's story sees main character Ziggy embarking on "an epic journey to rescue your brother from the clutches of the Mechanical Militia," and promises "intriguing characters, an epic story and a tactics-based battle system combine for a rich RPG experience previously only available on home and handheld game consoles." Square Enix says the Tune Trooper type and abilities are determined by the types of songs you use to create them, and can be powered up outside the game by listening to the songs used to create them. The game is played entirely with the click wheel and utilizes a turn-based tactical battle system similar to that seen in the developer's Final Fantasy Tactics franchise. The surprise announcement has seen Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes released immediately worldwide for download via iTunes at a price of $4.99, £3.99 or €4.99.
