3D animation software developer Interactive Data Visualization (IDV), has signed a licensing agreement with Vivendi's Sierra Entertainment to use SpeedTree software solutions to enhance outdoor environments in a number of new and upcoming Sierra Entertainment titles. IDV's SpeedTreeRT delivers trees and plants with adjustable wind effects, user-configurable LOD transitions, and includes a library of hundreds of tree, plant and marine models representing more than 170 core species. SpeedTreeRT also includes SpeedTreeCAD, a Windows application used to create and edit animated trees in real-time. Most recently, it was used in Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Spider Man 3, among others. The SpeedTree visual elements will appear in a number of current and future Sierra Entertainment projects, including the recently-released World in Conflict from Sierra Entertainment’s Massive Entertainment studio. “The SpeedTreeRT technology provides tremendous life-like and realistic features making players feel as though they are in the game,” said Brian Leake, vice president of Technology for Sierra Entertainment. “For the next generation of gaming, SpeedTree software is an important tool to help create out-of-this-world outdoor environments that meet the highest standards of players.”
