Talking during a Nintendo developer Q&A attended by Gamasutra, legendary creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that a new title in his unique
Pikmin franchise is currently in development, simply stating: "We're making
Pikmin."
Gamasutra's Chris Remo asked
Zelda &
Mario creator Miyamoto about the possibility of a new title in the franchise, and the developer confirmed that the multi character-controlling series, started on the Gamecube in 2001, will continue on the new generation of Nintendo consoles.
As Miyamoto
confirmed at GDC 2007, the title was originally spawned from the multiple-character tech demonstrations of early Gamecube game
Mario 128, with the developer commenting: "Most of you have already played [
Mario 128] - but you played it in a game called
Pikmin."
Following the sequel,
Pikmin 2, in 2004 for the Gamecube, but no further titles in the series have been confirmed until now. No further information on the target platform or release date for the new entry to the franchise yet.
