Episodic video game developer Kuma Games has announced Somali Showdown: Pirates on the High Seas, a PC multiplayer action game that puts players in the middle of a pirate attack on a commercial cargo ship. The game is inspired by the recent Maersk Alabama hijacking, in which Somali pirates captured a U.S. container ship and held its captain hostage. Somali Showdown allows players to take on the role of either a crew member or an invading pirate aboard a captured vessel. During a simulated hijacking, crew members will attempt to fend off the pirates and regain control of the ship's operations room. Players joining the game as pirates will try to take over the operations room and sail the ship into Somali waters. The game is part of Kuma Games' Kuma\War series, an episodic collection of downloadable online games inspired by real-world conflicts. Previous episodes in the series focus on World War II, the Vietnam War, and modern events in Iraq. Somali Showdown: Pirates on the High Seas will be released as a free download on Kuma Games' website on May 7th.
