Genemation Ltd., developer of 3D face synthesis and character modelling tools, announced the April launch of GenHead v3.1 The beta will be demoed at the upcoming Game Developers Conference in San Jose, California, March 22-24. GenHead v3.1 is a standalone software tool for digital content artists that enables the creation of 3D heads from photographs. Content created by GenHead v3.1 can be exported into industry-standard art/animation tools such as Maya 3dsMax or Softimage, or saved as VRML files. GenHead v3.1's new features include letting the user define output texture sizes, improved scaleable quad meshes, the ability to make geometry and textures symmetric, a preview feature for 3D heads with bump and specular maps, generating bump maps from diffuse maps, and a Japanese-language version. "For teams needing to create 3D heads easily and quickly from photographs GenHead v3.1 enables art teams to do so with little fuss, within their desktop environment and without losing the ability to control and fine tune all the key parameters in their character modelling pipeline," said Genemation CEO John Bickley. "GenHead v3.1’s unique 3D preview window updates 3D heads in real-time allowing users to see the effects of their fine-tuning of geometry and texture before saving our to their preferred art/animation package.”
