This week's top rental charts from major online video game rental company GameFly, representing rentals for the week ending April 24, show the continuing appeal of arcade-style aerial combat, archeology with sex appeal, and Disney characters with hit points.
After being knocked from the top of the all-format chart the previous week, Square-Enix's
Kingdom Hearts II for the PlayStation 2 fights its way back to the top, Keyblade in hand. The Crystal Dynamics developed and Eidos-published
Tomb Raider: Legend, available for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PC, repels down the list a bit to the number two spot, followed closely by Ubisoft's
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, a title for the Xbox and Xbox 360 that despite being panned by critics since its release has remained a favorite among players.
Looking to the Xbox 360 specifically, the aforementioned
Tomb Raider: Legend proved to be the most popular rental for the week, further validating the title's popularity.
Blazing Angels took the second spot, followed by two other Ubisoft releases,
Far Cry Instincts: Predator and
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in the third and fourth spots respectively.
Electronic Art's visceral first-person shooter
Black took top honors for the Xbox, beating out the ever-popular Lara Croft and
Tomb Raider: Legend, which took the second spot.
The Godfather: The Game, another Electronic Art's release, fell two spots to round out the top three Xbox rentals for the week.
Unsurprisingly, Square-Enix's
Kingdom Hearts II remained the most popular PlayStation 2 rental for the week. Just as with the Xbox, the second and third most popular rentals for the platform were
Tomb Raider: Legend followed by
The Godfather: The Game. GameCube rentals have remained consistent from week to week due to relatively few new releases for the platform. D3P's
Naruto: Clash of Ninja was the most popular rental for the week, followed by Next-Level Games'
Super Mario Strikers. The only new release on the chart, Nintendo' real-time strategy pinball hybrid
Odama, climbed up one spot from last week to third.
The top Game Boy Advance rentals remained consistent from the previous weeks, with
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and
Naruto: Ninja Council taking the top spots, followed by
Yu-Gi-Oh Ultimate Masters 2006 in third. Nintendo DS rentals show player curiosity concerning the recently released brain training game
Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!, as the puzzle game takes the top spot, followed by
Metroid Prime: Hunters and
Tetris DS.
The PSP chart shows few surprises, with Sony's
Daxter and
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror laying claim to the first and second spots respectively, pushing last week's top title,
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, down to number three. Sony Online Entertainment's
Untold Legends: The Warrior's Code, last week completely absent from the chart, has managed to fight its way back in as the tenth most popular PSP rental for the week.
