Electronic Arts Maxis announced a competition challenging aspiring developers to create an app or widget for Spore with the Spore API Contest. Entrants are asked to use the Sporepedia content database to build their apps from scratch, or to download and modify the source code from provided samples. The grand prize for the best app is a NVIDIA graphics card; the first runner-up will receive a copy of both Spore and Spore Galactic Adventures, and the second runner-up gets a copy of Spore Galactic Adventures. All original apps submitted by April 6th, 2009 are eligible, and entrants can submit as many as they like.
