Officials from publisher 1C Company have announced that the firm has acquired fellow Russian developer Ino-Co, the studio behind the popular
Star Wolves and
Fantasy Wars PC franchises. The developer will now be renamed as 1C: Ino-Co.
1C: Ino-Co is currently working on the sequel to
Fantasy Wars named
Elven Legacy, which is due for a 2008 release. The developer is also working on two other undisclosed projects “based on world class intellectual properties”.
Officials claim that 1C Company is now one of the largest publishers in the world by volume and areas served. The publisher has seen rapid expansion in recent months, most recently with the
acquisition of Akella’s “Sea Dog” in-house development studio, responsible for various pirate themed games such as
Sea Dogs, Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales and
Pirates of the Caribbean.
The company has also in recent months completed a new
distribution deal with Atari, Inc. for the North American release of many of its titles, and
purchased Czech developer Cenega Publishing – now rebranded 1C Publishing EU.
