Multiple industry and retail sources have begun to reveal details of Sony’s rumored PStwo console, which is alleged to be released before Christmas, and perhaps as soon as late October. As happened with the original PlayStation and PSone, it is believed that the PStwo will be a slimmed down version of the existing PlayStation 2 console, to be sold at a lower price and with all the same functionality. Some industry sources have suggested, via The Hollywood Reporter, that the console will be around 30% smaller in size than the current iteration, and retail at around $149 in the U.S. (compared to $179 for the current version). In addition, independent retail sources have indicated that the console will be officially revealed at a Sony press conference, perhaps as early as next week. Sony have certainly made little attempt to dissuade talk of the redesigned console, and are known to have trademarked the name last year. However, rumors that the console will be bundled with copies of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, or that Rockstar's game was delayed a week specifically to mesh with the PStwo release, are far less substantiated.
