Nintendo And Activision Top November Sales In UK

UK chart compiler Chart-Track has revealed detailed statistics concerning the British video game market during November, with Call Of Duty 4 topping sales and leading market shares for Nintendo and Electronic Arts - detailed stats within.

In an unusual move, regular UK chart compiler Chart-Track has revealed detailed statistics concerning the British video games market during November. Although there are still no unit sales figures given, the company has revealed a detailed percentage breakdown of software sales during the month. Released via British trade paper MCV, the top selling title of the month (where all SKUs of the same game are combined into a single unit sales figure) was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Activision. This was followed by Electronic Arts’ The Simpsons, Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 and Assassin’s Creed from Ubisoft. At number five was WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008 from THQ, then Electronic Art’s FIFA 08, and a trio of titles from Nintendo: Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training (aka Brain Age), More Brain Training from Dr Kawashima (aka Brain Age 2) and Super Mario Galaxy. Total software unit sales by publisher saw Nintendo dominant with 14 percent, followed by Electronic Arts on 11.8 percent (16.3 percent if sales with the EA Sports label are combined), THQ were on 8.8 percent, Activision on 8.0 percent, Ubisoft on 6.5 percent, Sony on 4.3 percent, Microsoft on 4.3 percent, Konami on 4.0 percent and Sega on 3.6 percent. Chart-Track indicates that Nintendo’s market share grew by 3.7 percent from September 2007, while the EA Sports division suffered a 10.6 percent drop on its value share and a 3.3 percent drop in terms of unit sales. In terms of total revenues by company, though, Electronic Arts was still on top with 18.5 percent of the market. The company’s share was down by 5.7 percent, however, with Activision rising by 9.1 percent at the same time. In terms of full price market share for individual formats, the Xbox 360 saw unit sales increase by 1.9 percent to 23.1 percent. The Nintendo DS saw sales increase by 2.8 percent to a 16.2 percent share of the market. The Wii software market grew by 3.0 percent to 14.2 percent. PlayStation 3 software market share was put at 13.9 percent, with the PC down by 6.6 percent to 12.8 percent. Despite reported strong hardware sales, the PSP was on only 4.3 percent and the Mac on 0.1 percent.
