A Gameplay Video (and BSTT:121)
Check out an annotated video for my arcade action game before I continue the weekly dose of BYOND Strategy links.
I finally managed to make a video of Wrangle, Warp And Weep that I can live with. Please check it out on YouTube or else its media page on BYOND. It's a bit long, but I added annotations which should be helpful. (I've also made a minor update since the video capture so don't be offended by the smushed options and wide top ten list on the start screen. ;))
The game is sort of a blend of Bubbles, Defender, and Solar Fox/Wolf. You play as a slave whose civilization comes under attack way too often. You are forced to gather as many of the crazed remnants of your people as you can and escape before the warp closes. On the bright side, the collected strays power your spinning shields (which bounce enemies) and your satellites (which can be ejected to collect more strays).
If you leave strays behind, then your civilization will place a temporary lock on the warp. Nightmares in cryogenic freeze will help you relieve your guilt and remove the lock. Failure to gain this forgiveness in your dream will result in your nightmares invading your thawed life.
...Or, you know, play the actual game, add your score to the list, and win some medals.
Tech Tree is a list of links about games in BYOND Strategy, a guild run by volunteers on a game/development portal and software engine called BYOND. Those curious about notes or YouTube videos I've cut out can view the original version.
A featured game is back! Unknown Person made good on the page he sent me last week and announced that an Ultimatum server will be up for the rest of the summer. As a matter of fact, it's up right now. That means there are multiple rooms of turn-based fantasy warfare available so check it out!
I don't know when the download link for WildBlood's Omnipotence started working again, but it is and I've added the RTS back into the guild. Omnipotence had previously been kicked out of the guild due to a lack of player access. Players who had already downloaded the game tried to keep it alive with unofficial servers, but they died off and were too random for me to track manually anyway. This time, there is an official source that the developer can control. Unfortunately, I'm guessing that WildBlood won't be providing bug fixes anymore.
Those who have tried hosting Mecha Destroyer JD's RTS, Ultimate Strife, may have noticed that servers are not showing up on the hub page. Mecha Destroyer JD has realized this and will hopefully be providing a fix soon. Meanwhile, he is thinking of changing the battle system. There could be more micromanagement on the way.
Geldonyetich's blog is infested with insects. Check the comments for some more brainstorming on his persistent world game. He keeps referencing the influence that RTS games have had on him so I'll remain hopeful. ;)
I got some more work done on my daemonic wargame, Flesh And Drone. I was going to show a screenshot of the HUD, but, once I saw it all together, I thought that it looked too cluttered. I'll have to see if I can get away with a few small changes first. I did upload a screenshot of the options page with the spell names though. That's almost as good as implementing them. ;)
