This is a brief description of what I feel is a valid strategy for a new "video games console", with an OPEN DASHBOARD OS. This is a games console with something similar to a "tray" on startup, and can "force" developer support in the "NMO".

NMO???,. yeah I'm calling the "new video games industry" the NMO at the moment :),. it's a Microsoft wise crack.

So what is this "plan" Rhys? Well,. it's SIMPLE,. as a video game programmer, and "designer", it's my "expert" opinion that the following "will make money" :) and I also WISH IT SO, because I want one.

A games console with a "dashboard OS" that allows 3rd party installation of digital distribution services, not necessarily associated with the hardware manufacturer, there by preventing "blockbuster" monopoly error, and giving the ability to watch youtube, and use iTunes on my "games console", as well as giving major publishers their "future" back.

Suggestions,. 

go to Google, Apple, AMD/ATI, or nVidia/INTEL, and Steam, and EA/ACTI, Disney, and Warner and join team COCO :) Giving digital distribution back to the developers, will FORCE them onto your console over AD SPACE.

SO Rhys? What else do you want

Make sure that the CONSOLE can BOOT directly to my favorite "vendor independent" PLATFORM / OS,. I want the "dashboard/OS" to be full applications, that support emulators, and other things, like their OWN avatar systems, etc,. basically their "own" -life-.

Oh yeah,. my recommendation for best games console, will have a multibus architecture, and flat, but banked memory, where the video memory will run at a higher speed, but both VRAM and system RAM are linearly addressable. This will allow for faster VRAM like the PS3, but give it a "shared" memory architecture like Xbox360. This can be achieved with a multibus design, in which communications to VRAM from CPU go through a "bridge" type of buss.
