Hi everyone! My name is Annika and I work as a gambling and casino game developer in Malta - the home of the European gambling industry. I currently work for various game developers such as consultant work for NextGen, 1x2 Gaming and other smaller developers doing mostly slot based games. If you know Swedish, you can read some more thoughts about online casino at CasinoSkolan where I write some blog posts every now and then.

I have worked across many big companies since I started in 2003. Among them is Betsson Group  where I worked most with statistics and game mathematics for inhouse development (operator branded slots). The last couple of years I have mostly done consultant work in game graphics and mathematics on slots machines online.

So, how is it to be a woman in the gambling industry? Overall, I want to say that is has been a wonderful experience. I know that most game developer companies in general have a lot of men and very few women. But the casino industry has actually taken in a lot of women and this means that I am not by far alone on my projects as a woman. Gender is an important question and at the little island of Malta, there are very much women that blends in to all companies making the work climate very fun and rewarding.

If you are a women that wants to try your wings and enter the game developing industry, there are many opportunities in the online casino industry - especially over at Malta if you can think abount moving. One of my colleagues Sara has a blog about her own Malta casino work experience for example, see her blog here (sorry again, the writes in Swedish). If you have any questions about being a women in the game industry and especially casino industry in Malta - you can always send me a message! I Hopoe you found this blog post a bit inspiring. Talk to you soon! smiley
