Take-Two Announces Console Exclusive Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution

Take-Two has announced plans to publish Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution on next generation consoles and handhelds next spring, including extensive multiplayer functionality and other new features - with no PC version currently planned.
Officials from Take-Two Interactive publishing label 2K have announced that it is to publish Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution on next generation consoles and handhelds next spring, with no PC version apparently being planned. Although there have been console versions of the Civilization franchise before, none have been produced directly by Meier, and have never proven as successful as the PC iterations. The series began, as an unofficial adaption of the board game of the same name, in 1991 and it remains one of the few turn-based strategy games to retain a significant audience in the West. No screenshots have yet been revealed of the new game, which is described as “accessible, visually immersive and action-packed”. The game will also feature real-time interaction with leaders and advisors as well as “extensive” multiplayer capabilities and integrated video and voice chat. The game will feature sixteen civilizations to control or compete against, with the goal remaining to conquer the world through a combination of military and cultural dominance. “Civilization Revolution is the game I’ve always wanted to make!” said Meier. “We are excited to take advantage of the power of next generation consoles and the ingenuity of handhelds, to create a great and unique strategy game for newcomers to the series, as well as the millions of fans around the world who enjoy Civilization on the PC.” “Civilization is one of the world’s top selling PC game series with more than 8 million units sold, and continues to be recognized as one of the greatest franchises ever created,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We are excited to have Sid Meier getting back to his roots as the game’s lead designer to carry on its legacy with Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution.”
