Report: Xbox Game Pass will soon have a family plan

When you're here, you're family.

Windows Central is reporting that Microsoft is looking to add a "Family Plan" option to its Xbox Game Pass subscription service. This would follow existing family plan options on services like Nintendo Switch Online that allow multiple users to access the benefits of a subscription service under one recurring payment.

Microsoft has not publicly announced any plans for such a service, but Windows Central Xbox editor Jez Cordon apparently has the inside scoop. The plan is supposedly to let users pay for a higher tier of Xbox Game Pass that would enable up to five players to access games across the entire library.

This would apparently use Microsoft's existing Family Account system for its Office 365 service.

Cordon writes that Microsoft has been interested in a Family Plan for some time, but had to wrangle with royalty agreements for games on Xbox Game Pass.

We checked in with Microsoft to see if it was interested in confirming this report. A spokesperson provided the following statement:

“We are always looking for ways to improve the Game Pass experience and add more value for members, which includes regularly testing and refining features based on community feedback. However, we have nothing to announce at this time.”
