Sega has enjoyed its biggest success yet with the Ryu ga Gotoku (aka Yakuza) franchise in Japan, with the second sequel selling 372,000 units on the PlayStation 3. Although both games debuted at number one, this direct sequel, set in contemporary Japan, performed even better than samurai themed spin-off Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan!’s 181,000 units. Neither game has yet been confirmed for a Western release. The second fastest seller of the week is what will be known in the West as Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce on PSP. The latest in Koei’s evergreen series sold 219,000 units, becoming the most successful iteration so far on the platform. In a busy week for new releases the next highest new entry is Namco Bandai’s One Piece Unlimited Cruise: Episode 2 at number four. The latest anime tie-in for the Wii sold a total of 45,000 units on its debut. New at number five is Namco Bandai’s Game Center CX: Arino no Chousenjou 2 on Nintendo DS. Although a tie-in to a Japanese television show, the first game is due to be released in North America by XSEED, under the title Retro Game Challenge. The sequel sold 44,000 in its first week. Debuting at number six is Konami’s manga-themed baseball title Sunday x Magazine Nettou! on DS with 23,000 units sold. The final new entry in the top 10 is SNK’s 2D fighting game The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match at number seven. The PlayStation 2 title sold 19,000 units. Outside of the top 10, other new entries include Koei’s female-targeted role-playing game Kin'iro no Corda 2 f on PSP at number 11; Xbox 360 visual novel Chaos;Head Noah at number 12 from publisher 5pb; Microsoft’s Halo Wars on Xbox 360 at number 14; and the belated Xbox 360 version of Way of the Samurai 3 from Spike at number 27.
