I am a liberal in pretty much every sense of the word and I like video games. But why in God's name is the state of Rhode Island involved in the financing of a video game company?

Food, Housing, Clothing, Energy, Education - YES.

Video Games - NO.

The troubles of 38 Studios are interesting because they speak to a wider problem in our society.

The root cause is that rich people can to a large extent do whatever they want because they have many chances for failure which allows them to take more risks and get into leadership positions. When the rest of us only have one chance (or none at all). But we'll get into that later.

 Let’s Begin:

Hmm

Curt Schilling likes video games. Decides he wants to start a video game development company. He has no experience in such an endeavor. Makes the unwise decision of making his first game an MMORPG. He receives money from a variety of sources including a loan that was cosigned by the state of Rhode Island government. The company fails due to mismanagement, over ambitiousness and a lack of cash flow. He goes on his merry way - complaining about the stupidity of government in general. No evidence of criminal behavior; just stupid behavior.

Morgan Stanley Rich Guy -
Back in November, it was reported that last summer, Morgan Stanley financial adviser Martin Joel Erzinger… had driven over a doctor who was on his bike and then kept going, "until he reached a Pizza Hut parking lot, where he stopped and called Mercedes auto assistance to report the damage to his vehicle."…

The part of the story that was somewhat more shocking was that rather than being slapped with serious to quite serious charges; a court decided that for his crime, MJE would be hit with two misdemeanor traffic violations and restitution to the victim. People were somewhat outraged, to say the least. But! That was prior to hearing all of Marty’s side of the story.

According to Erzinger’s defense lawyers, Erzinger suffers from sleep apnea, and that condition was exacerbated by the new car smell of his month-old Mercedes. And that all caused him to lose consciousness during the hit-and-run fiasco.

So owning a new Mercedes can get you off scott-free. Good to know if I ever crash into someone in my 1999 Toyota Corolla. It’s got quite a relaxing beef burrito aroma.

Curt Johnson - Wealthy heir of the SC Johnson and Son fortune:
On 24 March 2011, Johnson was charged in Racine County Circuit Court with repeated sexual contact with a child over a period of three years, [3] starting from when she was 12 years old. On August 22 of 2011, Racine Circuit Judge Gasiorkiewicz altered the conditions of his bond to allow the billionaire to travel out of state to see his wife, attend counseling sessions, and conduct business within the continental United States.[4] the billionaire [5] was released on a $500,000 cash bond and ordered to have no contact with any female child. If convicted, he could be sentenced to as much as forty years in prison.[6]

So when did we start releasing pedophiles into the general public? Oh yea, when they have lots of money.

Ryan Levin - Wealthy Jewelry Heir -
Ryan LeVin is a jewelry heir and a hit-and-run killer.[1] On February 23, 2009, a valet at YOLO, a Fort Lauderdale restaurant, observed LeVin leave at 1 AM in his Porsche 911 Turbo. LeVin then proceeded to drive the car up and down Las Olas Boulevard. Hours later, the same Porsche struck and killed two British tourists.[1] LeVin originally claimed that his friend Derek W. Cook had been at the wheel at the time,[2] but later accepted responsibility for the deaths.[3] In an unusual move, LeVin, who has previous convictions for striking a police officer with his car and instigating a police chase and for cocaine possession,[4] received no jail time, instead receiving two years of unmonitored house arrest and ten years of probation in return for an undisclosed monetary settlement.[3]

Google "wealthy hit and run" and I'm sure you can find a lot more.

Blame is important. It is not just a blame game. People need to be held accountable for their actions or the lack thereof.

If people in the private sector are taking advantage of our government, that doesn't necessarily mean democracy doesn't work and all government is bad. It means that these rich people need to be held accountable for once. It means you need to vote better.

what is this 1952?

OH, I'm so sorry we made you fail by securing you a 75 million dollar loan for you and then becoming worried when your checks bounce.

But you give a kid a bunch of candy bars. What do you expect?

If it is all governme
nt's fault, it is all OUR fault.

Personally, I chalk Curt Schilling up as another douchebag rich person who gets away with stupid decisions. It doesn't surprise me, and I don't know why it seems to surprise any of you.
