Rovio launches 'MumJam' to help mothers get into the games industry

"Obviously, there are already a lot of things going on in the industry in support of students but what we wanted to focus on was more experienced talent."

Angry Birds creator Rovio is organizing a 'MumJam' to help more experienced women find a route into the games industry.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the event will be a weekend-long game jam where teams attempt to create a playable prototype from scratch.

The idea is to connect mothers keen to work in the games industry with fellow professionals. With that in mind, the jam is open to people of all backgrounds, although Rovio is hoping there'll be at least one mum per team.

The two-day jam will kick off on Saturday, November 11, and free childcare will be provided on-site over the weekend.

"It's really important to us to create a diverse workforce," explained Rovio London's senior recruiter Michelle Simon, speaking at the Women in Games Conference.

"Obviously, there are already a lot of things going on in the industry in support of students but what we wanted to focus on was more experienced talent and hopefully encourage more mums into the workplace as they struggle to get back to work after having children."
