2K Games has confirmed that several of its employees from its Marin studio were let go today, in a volley of layoffs some unnamed sources describe as large and sweeping. "We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin. While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged," a 2K representative said in a statement, as reported by Polygon. While an official number for the laid off workers has not been confirmed, Polygon reports a source saying a "majority" of the team was affected. 2K Marin most recently delivered The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, and as recently June were hiring for an unnamed future title. That project's status is unknown. Meanwhile, the "reallocated" workforce are likely destined (at least in part) for another Bay Area 2K studio, recently founded by BioShock Infinite alumnus Rod Fergusson.
