Social app analytics company Kontagent announced it has raised a $12 million second round of Series B funding led by Battery Ventures, bringing its total funding to $17.75 million. Kontagent's tools give developers granular, per-session data on how users are engaging with an app or game, which can be used to increase monetization opportunities and eliminate bottlenecks and drop-off points in their design. The company's game publisher clients include EA, Warner Brothers, Ubisoft, and Gaia Online. Kontagent said it will use the new funding to continue expansion into mobile and general web analytics, and to build products that allow for deeper data mining and predictive analysis. In a July interview with Gamasutra, Kontagent CEO Jeff Tseng said social gaming is quickly transitioning from being all about user acquisition to being more about keeping those players interested and paying. "I think we're in a newer phase, where it's become a lot more stable and now it's a lot more about monetization and engagement," he said. "The shift has been toward better gameplay, and you have companies beginning to penetrate the hardcore user base where the monetization is significantly higher."
