Get WIGI for Ada Augusta, Lady Lovelace

Today we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of the first programmer, Ada Augusta, Lady Lovelace -- daughter of Lord Byron and co-conspirator to Babbage. 

We're supposed to pick a heroine in computing and the sciences and blog about her today, but as a woman who's been working in computing for over 30 years now, I think every woman in computing back to the 70's and before is heroic in some way.  I salute the women of my vintage!

Do you know about organizations and resources for women in games?

WIGI is an informal meet-up group for women at conventions and in cities where games give women a critical mass in the industry for get-togethers.  Along with the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Women in Games SIG (WIG SIG), they work to mentor women breaking into the field.

Unsurprisingly, WIGI and WIG SIG are big into social media!  Seek them out on Facebook and Twitter, or join their email lists.

Sony Online Entertainment pitches in with the Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) Game Design Competition.  offering a $10,000 scholarship to a young women getting her education in gaming.

Gamasutra started recognizing the top women in game development in 2008.
