Newsbrief: Video game rental service GameFly today launched the public beta for its
PC game client, allowing users to download and play select PC games for the duration of their GameFly subscription.
This move to digital marks brand new territory for the service, as GameFly previously only offered physical disk and cartridge rentals for consoles and handhelds.
Currently, games featured on the new GameFly client include
Assassin's Creed,
Saints Row 2,
Prince of Persia (2008), and more.
Outside of its rental service, GameFly also
owns the PC distribution service Direct2Drive, and company co-founder Sean Spector told Gamasutra that Direct2Drive will be folded into GameFly's main website in early 2012. He added that all current Direct2Drive customers will retain their existing purchases and will be invited to join GameFly.
