BitSummit, Japan's indie event, comes back to Kyoto in July

The popular event launches its fourth iteration this summer; last year, the event attracted over 80 titles and speakers from around the globe.

BitSummit, Japan's independent game festival, is back this summer for its fourth iteration. The festival will be held in Kyoto, at the Miyako Messe exhibit hall, on July 9th and 10th, 2016.

The event is nicknammed "BitSummit Force," because the English words "fourth" and "force" are homonyms when transliterated into Japanese.

The organizers, known as JIGA (the Japan Independent Games Aggregate), are partnering with Indie Megabooth and Kyoto Prefecture Department of Commerce, Labor, and Tourism to throw the event. Speakers, exhibitors, and admission fee are still unannounced, but you can find a bit more info at the official site, or follow BitSummit on Twitter for updates.

Curious about the event? Organizer James Mielke (formerly of Q Entertainment and Shinra Technologies) spoke about it at GDC 2014; he has also blogged on Gamasutra about his reasons for organizing the event.

English-speaking attendees have also written about the event on Gamasutra; Next Level Games' Brian Davis spoke there, and blogged about his experience; indie devs Pedro Furtado and Ryan Sumo both wrote practical blogs about what to do (and not to do) if you plan to attend.

If you're curious about what Japanese developers think of it, meanwhile, Lena LeRay translated and summarized some of observations on the 2014 event.
