One of the best things a game developer can do is foster the ideal user experience (UX)—in order to do so, you have to get inside your players' heads. That's where Game UX Summit founder Celia Hodent's Masterclass on Psychology and Game UX comes into the picture.

This GDC Masterclass is for designers, artists, programmers, producers, and junior UX practitioners who are eager to accomplish their developers' goals by understanding the human brain—especially its limitations—while it is perceiving and interacting with a game. During this two-day virtual course in September, attendees delve into how the human brain works in terms of perception, attention, and memory. Celia offers insights on human motivation, emotion, and gameflow, all of which are critical elements for engaging games. Based on these elements, the workshop proposes a UX framework and UX guidelines during the different game development stages.

When it comes to learning UX in game design, you won't find anyone better. Celia holds a PhD in psychology and has spent over a decade working with some of the biggest studios on their user experience—including LucasArts and Epic Games. The course also includes a free copy of her book, "The Gamer’s Brain: How Neuroscience and UX Can Impact Video Game Design."

Psychology and Game UX runs on September 29, 2021 and September 30, 2021 from 8:00am to 12:00pm PT (12:00pm to 4:00pm ET). Please note that it's being held virtually on both days, not in-person.

The following key elements will be covered in this class:

• Improve the experience of your game as perceived by the target audience
• Increase usability and engagement
• Understand how the main characteristics of the human brain impact game development
• Learn what makes a game engaging and how to foster these components
• Have a clear understanding of what developing a UX strategy entails
