Indie Cup UK’23 winners revealed – meet the best upcoming British indie games

June 27, 2023 – Kyiv, Ukraine – Indie Cup UK'23, an online festival of upcoming British indie games, has announced the best submissions of the season, as selected by the festival jury. The awards are led by Luna Abyss, a brutalist sci-fi FPS with emphasis on bullet hell combat, that won the festival’s main Most Anticipated Game Award, as well as taking home a special playtesting prize (selected by G.Round community vote).

 

The complete winners list features four titles, selected out of 80 total submissions. Meet the best upcoming independent games made in the United Kingdom:

 

  • Most Anticipated Game Award for the best overall entry: Luna Abyss (Bonsai Collective)

  • Most Promising Game Award for the best game in the early stages of development: Zero Division (Robot Cat Limited)

  • Rising Star Award for emerging developers: Paper Trail (Newfangled Games)

  • Critics’ Choice Award, selected by a panel of game journalists and influencers: VIDEOVERSE (Kinmoku)

 

Indie Cup UK’23 festival jury featured ZA/UM Director of Business Development Chris Priestman, No More Robots Production Director Sophie Smart, Massive Monster Artist & Director James Pearmain, Roll7 Creative Director John Ribbins, and many other industry experts as well as a panel of media professionals from EDGE, GamesRadar+, Rock Paper Shotgun, TheGamer and more.

 

A total of 20 submissions made it into the final round of Indie Cup UK’23. Here’s the complete nominee list:

 

  • Most Anticipated Game Award Nominees for the best overall entry:

Phoenix Springs, Luna Abyss, Death of the Reprobate, Paper Trail, Neurocracy, Dungeon Golf, Paleo Pines

 

  • Most Promising Game Award Nominees for the best game in the early stages of development:

Zero Division, Isle of Swaps, Fool's Gold, Hellscreen

 

  • Rising Star Award Nominees for emerging developers:

Death of the Reprobate, Mudborne, Phoenix Springs, Paper Trail, Full Void, Demon Spore, Regulator City

 

  • Critics’ Choice Award Nominees, selected by a panel of game journalists and influencers:

Phoenix Springs, Death of the Reprobate, VIDEOVERSE, Neurocracy, Keylocker, Fool's Gold, Paper Trail, Full Void, No Body, The Garden Path, Loco Motive.

 

Indie Cup continues to showcase all 80 in-development games from British indie developers on its website. Publishers, scouts, and other industry businesses can purchase this season’s Showcase Pass for $499 to get access to all festival submissions, many of which are still looking for partners.
