Majesco and Irem have announced Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship for the PSP, blending the gameplay of Sekkoïa's Blokus strategy board game series with the style and characters of Irem's PlayStation 2 action/RPG Steambot Chronicles. The title is expected to launch in early 2008. In the Blokus board game, each player places his or her pieces on the board in turn, ensuring that pieces of the same color touch at one or more corners, but never along the sides, with the goal of placing more pieces total than one's opponent. Blokus Portable: Steambot Championship supports wireless play for up to 16 players, or up to four players with one UMD in game sharing mode. Players can also customize their own character and unlock 18 additional characters from the Steambot Chronicles series. Majesco executive vice president of operations Gui Karyo said, "With three million units sold and credit as the most acclaimed game of the century, the Blokus board game is clearly an international sensation. Based on this incredibly successful property, Blokus Portable combines strategic gameplay with 16 player support to make it the perfect social puzzle game that’s easy to pick up, yet hard to put down.”
