New Super Mario Bros. Wii has been 2010's top-selling game so far in Japan this year, selling 1.4 million units and helping Nintendo take the top slot among all publishers in the first half with nearly 5.5 million software units sold. That brought the sidescrolling platformer up to nearly 3.9 million lifetime units in Japan, according to Famitsu data through June 28, as reprinted on NeoGAF, and helped Nintendo top the list of publishers in 2010 with close to 5.5 million total software units sold this year. Only three other games have managed to clear a million units in Japan so far, one of which was also published by Nintendo. After Mario, two Dragon Quest games accrued nearly as many units: Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie with 1.3 million and Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 with 1.2 million, both for Nintendo DS. Nintendo's Tomodachi Collection racked up just over 1 million units. That high DS representation is reflective of the current success of portable systems in Japan. Nintendo's DS line has been the highest-selling console line this year, with 1.4 million units sold, bringing its total local sales up to 30.6 million. This year's next best selling console is the PSP, whose 1.2 million units bring it up to 14.6 million to date. No other system exceeded a million units sold. Other top ten software performers included the PSP games Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (728K) and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (728K) at number five and six respectively, followed by the Wii games Wii Fit Plus (695K) and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (613K). The top ten is rounded out by God Eater on PSP (605K) and Yakuza 4 on PlayStation 3 (553K). Japan's top twenty games and the major consoles' sales rankings for the period of December 28, 2009 to June 28, 2010 are as follows. Lifetime sales are indicated in parentheses: Software 1.
