The stats on how YouTube affects game success

New research from Newzoo and Nevaly shows that online video is only getting more popular -- and has the hard stats to prove it.

Marketing agency Nevaly and analyst firm Newzoo have teamed up to offer some statistics on how YouTube and Twitch influence players to get interested in games. We've known that these platforms were driving the success of games for several years now, but the firms' numbers help shine a light on just what's going on out there.

According to their research, the audience size for online game video content should pass 500 million by the end of the year. And as of now, 35 percent of players use YouTube to discover new games.

YouTube still dominates the globe, but Twitch has made strong footholds everywhere -- and is strongest in Brazil and English-speaking countries.

We've excerpted a couple of slides that illustrate some of the most important facts -- including an analysis of just how YouTube contributed to the success of Papers, Please -- but there's more information in the text report and, especially, an associated infographic
