Developers in Quebec have formed La Guilde des développeurs de jeux vidéo indépendants du Québec, an independent game development cooperative -- representing 75 independent studios in the region.

"La Guilde," as the group nicknames itself, aims to promote a stronger independent video game development community in Quebec -- aiming to make existing studios more sustainable while supporting smaller studios in their growth, responding "in a durable way to the real needs of the independent developers of our province." The group operates as a cooperative.

You can watch a French-language promotional video for La Guilde above. You can also follow the group on Twitter.

The organization's president is Louis-Félix Cauchon, who is also CEO of Borealys Games, developer of Mages of Mystralia; cofounders include developers Pascal Nataf and Jean-François Malouin. Also involved is notable indie Patrice Desilets, late of Ubisoft, though his role is not clear.

The group works in concert with an organization called Chantier de l’économie sociale, which aims to develop a "social economy" that favors entrepreneurship.

The group will not only meet business needs but also aims to help graduates and allow developers to meet up and share expertise at events as well.

Below is a photo from a recent meet-up.
