A selected number of Best Buy stores will soon be getting Oculus Rift units for demo -- and purchase.

As part of a larger program in partnership with Intel, Ouclus will place its VR hardware in 48 stores starting May 7, with plans to roll out the device to more stores throughout the year.

On May 6, meanwhile, some Rift units will be available from Amazon and Microsoft for purchase online -- this despite the fact that the company has not fulfilled all of its preorders as yet.

To make good on that, the company is allowing pre-order purchasers to retain their bonuses if they purchase the hardware from another source and cancel their initial order.

There are more details about that program, the company's retail plans, and how to sign up for a Best Buy demo over at the company's official blog
