Console fans are marching toward mobile devices, but they don't spend much

New research from Nielsen suggests that while two-thirds of console fans now also play mobile games, they don't spend much at all on the games.

Market research firm Nielsen has published new data that suggests that a majority of traditional console game players also play mobile and tablet games -- but very few of them actually spend any money on those free-to-play titles.

In 2010, just 26 percent of console game players used mobile devices to play games; that number leapt to 66 percent by 2015, according to Nielsen's new report. 33 percent of their time is spent playing mobile games (on smartphones or tablets) too.

However, 83 percent of console players do not spend any money on mobile games whatsoever, the research also reveals. 84 percent of their budget is spent on games for dedicated game-playing devices, on the other hand.
