Xaitment's popular AI modules' source code is now free to licensees

German middleware developer Xaitment released the source code for two of its AI software modules, XaitMap and XaitControl, to its U.S. and European licensees at no extra charge for a limited time. The company claims that making its source code available will enable customers to "speed development by debugging and customizing AI code for their game and simulation projects." It also says that developers can "more easily debug, optimize and customize the code" on the software's supported platforms, which includes Windows, Linux, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. The XaitMap and XaitControl AI modules offer libraries and graphical tools for automatic NavMesh generation, pathfinding, realistic bot movement, character behavioral modeling, and game logic. "As the number and variety of projects we support grows, so too do the number of requests we see for features that are specific to game genres or platforms," says Xaitment CTO Thorsten Maier. He adds, "Offering source code with our AI software modules frees developers to customize our code in order to meet the specific needs of their unique projects."
