Shinra Technologies, the cloud gaming company established by Square Enix late last year, has today made the developer toolset for its unique remote game-streaming technology available in English on Github

Shinra says it will continually update this "Cloud Community Development Kit" going forward, and downloading its modules and documentation seems like a developer's best bet for understanding the technical capabilities of the company's nebulous "cloud gaming" platform and how it can be used to make games.

For example, right now the CCDK supports three different ways of architecting a game: 1:1 (effectively single-player games streamed to a single device), N:N (MMO games) and 1:N multiplayer games.

"Our engineering team calls it 1:N architecture, where you have one supercomputer driving many, many clients at once -- that’s the gameplay code and rendering -- all in one place," Shinra dev relations chief Colin Williamson told Gamasutra earlier this year while trying to explain how Shinra's platform works. "Think of it as a mega-instance of a game where each client is only providing controller input from their side, and looking into to the game instance via their own viewport, which is streamed back as video."
