Google officially unveiled its Daydream View VR headset during the company’s Made By Google event earlier today. The headset itself works wirelessly with Daydream compatible smartphones to deliver games, video, and Google Street View to users in virtual reality.

Accessibility seems to be Google’s main focus with the Daydream View, with its usability and low price potentially exposing virtual reality to a much wider audience. The headset itself is covered in soft fabric and is 30 percent lighter than similar devices.

The Daydream View also communicates wirelessly with phones; users are able to simply insert a compatible smartphone into the headset and start their VR experience straight away.

The headset works in conjunction with a small, wireless controller. The Daydream controller uses a clickable touchpad, two buttons, and precise motion sensors to interact with the Daydream View. The controller can be stored within the headset itself when not being used.

Google's new Pixel phones, announced moments before the Daydream View, are currently the only smartphones compatible with the headset but the company has mentioned that other Daydream ready devices are on the way from partner brands.

The Daydream View releases for $79 in November. The headset will be available in the color slate at launch, with two additional colors, snow and crimson, releasing later this year.
