One team's flash game sponsorship journey continues...

The game has been "finished" (is anything ever really done? and I've contacted the portals... to quote Peter Griffin "and now I play the waiting game".

In the process of going live with the game we hit a minor (sarcasm) web site setback that fortunately got resolved, but the process of transfering a domain from one host to another was time consuming as it took about a week.

The "setback" was actually a blessing in disguise as it gave us an extra week to work on the game.  We used that time well and added a lot of usablity to the interface and enhancements to bring more value to the game and to make it more enjoyable.

We added features like a universal pause button, the abilty to reset stages if you ran out of options before the clock ran out, nice visual cues for points awarded as well as realizing some "enhancements" we thought would add challenge actually turned out to make the game less fun.  We even put some (shhhh) top secret stuff in there that may/may not fly with whoever decides to sponsor the game  So we nixed them and revised the difficulty system as well which is adatptive.

Now that we've finished it, site locked and encrypted the swf file online, we've sent it to various portals.  I found that many of the sites that require an uploaded swf didn't feel right.  They give the impression that they will assess your game for sponsorship, but off no choice to say "do not publishs this game"!  So I opted to simply email them a link and let them evaluate it that way.

The nice thing about this approach is that we don't have to worry about unsecure versions floating around the internet.  Not saying portals would leak something on purpose, but it's simply doesn't feel right to hand out a file when a link is just as effective and less trouble for them.

My hope is that we get some responses over the next week and based on those offers decide who to go with.  I really look forward to getting a deal because I hate not sharing it with people...
