Heads up, Unreal devs: Improbable pushes its UE4 SDK into open beta

Improbable announced today that its flagship product, the virtual world-building platform SpatialOS, has been updated -- and with that comes an open beta for the platform's Unreal Engine integration.

The team at UK tech firm Improbable announced today that their flagship product, the virtual world-building platform SpatialOS, has reached v. 12.0 -- and with that update comes an open beta for the platform's Unreal Engine integration.

This is chiefly notable for devs who work in Unreal Engine 4 and have an interest in making games with huge, persistent worlds.

That's exactly what SpatialOS is meant to help with, primarily by intelligently distributing the work of maintaining a persistent online world amongst a bunch of "worker" clients that are running on instances of the game.

While it's already been used in a number of Unity-based games (including Bossa Studios' Worlds Adrift), this appears to be the first time its Unreal SDK has been made available via open beta.

For more details on how to use it and what's new in the latest version, check out the SpatialOS blog
