FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FUKUOKA, Japan — July 28, 2022 — Yuoni, the first-person hide-and-seek Japanese horror game developed by Tricore Inc. and published by Chorus Worldwide, haunts the Nintendo Switch today.
In 1990s Japan, a mute, anxious young grade-schooler named Ai faces social hardships. Her joy at finally finding friends to play with quickly sours when they coerce her into playing a scary game. Her performance grants her a meeting with Tsun, the specter of a small sickly child who perished while waiting for their friends to visit. Ai’s surroundings surrender into a never-ending sunset, and terrifying entities keep bleeding into her reality.
Play Tsun’s game of hide and seek or risk losing Ai’s life to an eternity locked in an otherworldly shadow realm. Quietly navigate around denizens of the spirit world as they search for anything living and breathing. Determine each phantom’s weakness, then adapt to their behaviors to survive. Hold Ai’s breath to fool blind ghosts or sprint to hide from deaf specters.
Discover the dark secrets of Ai’s classmates while exploring an environment melding a traditional Japanese house, a dilapidated school, and a sterile hospital. Keep a mental map of escape routes while overcoming environmental hazards like broken glass announcing Ai’s location when trampled. Take Deep Breaths to recover stamina quickly, but beware the whistle that blows, alerting nearby apparitions.
Manually open doors slowly to ensure safety, peek around each corner to assess surroundings, and definitely ignore that computer chair that just wheeled itself into view from just off-camera. Escape a nightmare fueled by a long-lost child’s loneliness on an isolated journey through claustrophobic school corridors and haunted classrooms.
Surviving Ai’s tale unlocks another earnable ending: triumph over challenging foes to see a different outcome. The Nintendo Switch™ version adds a "Deathless" mode for beginners and players hoping to experience Yuoni’s narrative at a lower heart rate.
Yuoni launches today for $15.99/€14.99/£12.99 on Nintendo Switch. The game is also available on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, and Steam for $21.99/€18.99/ £16.99. For more information, follow Yuoni and Chorus Worldwide on Twitter, and visit the official Yuoni page on Chorus Worldwide’s website.
“Chorus aims to highlight games of all genres around the globe, but I personally have a special interest in international horror,” said Shintaro Kanaoya, founder and CEO of Chorus Worldwide. “Yuoni’s nostalgic mix of fear and beauty courtesy of Tricore Inc. is a fantastic example of what indies are capable of when it comes to terror.”
