Miikka Luotio, Xsolla Regional Director of Europe, elaborates why Xsolla is joining GamesForest.club: “Climate change is undeniably impacting all of us. We at Xsolla Europe want to make a contribution and commit to help protect the environment in Europe and beyond as we partner with GamesForest.club.”
To show their genuine engagement, the company chose to support two different forest projects, one in Europe and one in South America.
Maria Wagner of GamesForest.club about the partnership with Xsolla: “We are very happy to see more and more companies joining the GamesForest.Club. The membership of Xsolla is strategically a special one as it sets a very good example for forward thinking service providers within the industry. We are looking forward to a close partnership and many further big steps into the regenerative future driven by the games industry.”
As a reason for choosing these particular projects, Xsolla states: “We wanted to support at least one project in our region and close to our Berlin office. This enables us to go out and witness our efforts come alive, which is why we voted for the Alluvial Forests in Dessau-Roßlau. With the second project we wanted to support a project in another region, as climate change is affecting us around the globe. We are convinced that protecting and reforesting nature is an effort that should be tackled with as broad a scope as possible, beyond Europe.”
The first project chosen by Xsolla is the restoration of Alluvial Forests in Eastern Germany. They are home to incredible biodiversity and are suffering from man-made river regulation such as dams and dikes. As a consequence, seasonal flooding is inhibited, which causes alluvial forest areas and their ecosystems to deteriorate. To counter this process, Xsolla partnered with GamesForest.club and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) who relocate obstacles and aspire to restore the Elbe rivers natural water flow.
The second project that Xsolla supports is situated in Peru. Near the city of Puerto Maldonado, along the Tambopata River, lies one of Peru‘s last remaining old-growth forests. It is part of the Madre de Dios region, one of the most biodiverse places on the globe. Local conservation partner Wilderness International purchases the forest areas legally to protect them.
With their investment, Xsolla acquires parts of the endangered forests, thus safeguarding the sensitive ecosystems from economic and agricultural exploitation as well as construction projects. The secured areas are kept safe by local guardians, who, in turn, have a stable income. Rescuing this forest is vital, as it captures large amounts of carbon and contributes to a healthy global climate.

The company’s goal is to protect and restore nature with the power of gaming, engaging the good hearts and minds of the industry. All real-life restoration activities are represented by GamesForest’s digital twin to playfully visualize and effectively communicate the engagement of each new member. Being founded in November 2021, GamesForest.Club has already cooperated with 40 gaming companies and is now offering 17 different forest projects worldwide.
