06 JUL 2022, BRIGHTON, UK - Game If You Are, the indie game marketing agency, has today announced The Indie Spotlight, a new initiative created to provide free marketing support for indie developers from underrepresented backgrounds, communities, identities, or parts of the world.


Recognising that marketing is a crucial part of development which is often inaccessible to developers without the means to accommodate it, Game If You Are aims to help shine a much-needed light on games developed by those without the resources or reach to seek marketing support.


>From today, the agency is inviting developers of unfunded or self-funded games to reach out and apply for inclusion in the programme. Those chosen for participation will receive strategic and tactical consultation packages normally worth approximately £1,000.


What do we mean by "underrepresented game developers"?


The Indie Spotlight is offered to developers from any and all all backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in the games industry (for example. marginalised genders, LGBTQ+ people, disabled people, and people from the global majority).


Game If You Are routinely works with developers and indie publishers around the world to help them bring their games to a wider audience.


Included within the standard free package is a full review of each game and its marketing potential, followed by tailored and bespoke input on how to devise and execute the best possible marketing plan to help achieve the developers' specific goals. Over time, Game If You Are hopes to expand the initiative to include even greater free support, evolving the initiative in consultation with the community. 


Lewis Denby, Founder of Game If You Are said: "At Game If You Are, we've always sought to help indie developers from all walks of life and all parts of the world, and aim to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. That said, we often speak to indie developers who still really struggle to access the services that could make or break their projects. I'll always remember quoting one developer for a simple PR campaign, and their response was eye-opening: 'There's just no way we can afford that - it's a year's rent in our country.'


Since then, we've been talking more and more about the sheer number of folks that find themselves on the fringes of the game development community - whether because of where they live, their race or ethnicity, sexuality or gender identity, disability, and more besides. The more we thought and talked about it, the more we understood how many are excluded from the sorts of services that could provide them with the visibility and engagement they deserve, to share the unique stories they have to tell. It's a topic that's close to all of our hearts for a variety of personal reasons - and we're excited to work with an ever-more-diverse selection of indie developers, and to evolve the initiative in consultation with them."


Game If You Are's The Indie Spotlight initiative is open to applicants from today, and the agency invites potential candidates to reach out via the dedicated page.
