Independent developer Sophism Games is excited to announce their first title, Galactic Merchant, an inter-galactic business sim that takes a lot of inspiration from classic tycoon games.

Galactic Merchant lets you become the CEO of your very own space trading company. You’re not thrust into an already established business, instead, you’re responsible for building a successful business from the no-gravity ground up. What may start as a single trade route company can soon grow into a cosmic-spanning enterprise with multiple facilities, a vast amount of trades, and maybe even control of the black market?!

 

No simulation game would be complete without some real-world, or real out-of-this-world events, and Galactic Merchant is no different. While on your journey to build the most successful business the stars have ever seen you’ll be thrown a variety of events. From a pandemic outbreak shutting down a planet's trading to pirates trying to hijack your ships. Just like the real world of business, expect the unexpected.

 

All stock and trading opportunities in Galactic Merchant are inspired by real-world trading. Events that affect a part of the galaxy will also affect the prices of their stock, your management of staff will impact the efficiency of their work and who you choose to trade with can have a lasting impact on potential future deals. While a black market weapon deals me be very lucrative now, they may bring big consequences in the future.


Galactic Merchant will feature two modes; a scripted story mode and an endless sandbox mode. The story mode will look to offer 15 - 20 hours of scripted content, providing a targetted end goal with a galactic narrative woven in. The sandbox mode is where you can flex your true business muscles. The ever-evolving gameplay will challenge you to think on your feet and adapt to the unknown scenarios of space trading.

 

Galactic Merchant has just launched its Kickstarter campaign and is seeking investment. The campaign offers a playable demo for the opening hour of the story mode. Investors can get their hands on the sandbox mode, as part of a reward tier, along with other galactic goodies. Galactic Merchant’s Kickstarter campaign will run until 15th June.
