Delabs, the web3-focused arm of leading South Korean mobile-first game development company 4:33 Creative Lab, today announces Rumble Racing Star (RRS), its debut arcade racing title with a web3 layer hosted on the Polygon blockchain.

Rumble Racing Star is the newest addition to the world of web3 gaming, inviting players to compete against their friends and others in wild and exciting lawnmower races. The game was created by the same veteran developers of blockbuster title KartRider, and led by Beongryang Choi, a 20+ year veteran racing game designer and the director behind titles such as Disney’s ZIPI Racing and Nexon's Crazy Racing Kart Rider.

RRS features a modern AAA look and feel, touting vivid colors, high-fidelity visuals, and a country theme. What truly sets RRS apart, however, is its seamless integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), resulting in robust and inclusive social interaction aspects.

The game’s web3 functionality allows players to deeply customize their karts, drivers, and profile pictures (PFPs), all available in the form of NFTs. RRS has also partnered with several NFT-based PFP collections, including Goblintown, y00ts, a KID called BEAST, Killabears, and Quirkiesby to use their likenesses as in-game characters. Holders of these collections will also receive unique in-game benefits.

To collect and manage their in-game NFTs, RRS players can link their existing blockchain wallets, such as Metamask, or easily make a new one directly in the game. The developers are also currently looking into additional third-party wallets and social logins to provide easier access for all players, regardless of their familiarity with Web3.

Apart from purchasing them directly, players can acquire NFT-based customization items via numerous in-game activities, including events and airdrops, tournaments, and missions. Further, such NFTs are fully owned by players and can be freely traded on decentralized marketplaces like OpenSea. Partner PFP holders can also gain some benefits in those third-party projects as well.

Meanwhile, RRS players don’t have to worry about staying competitive with NFT holders as in-game assets don’t provide any direct racing advantage, so both web2 and web3 players always have equal chances to win in the true spirit of sportsmanship. This is because non-NFT karts will have their own equally powerful upgrades, modifications, and cosmetics, just like the NFT-based ones.

The RRS team is led by Beongryang Choi, an expert racing game designer with more than 20 years of game development experience. Choi was the main director of Nexon’s Crazy Racing KartRider and the director of ZIPI Racing at Disney, two highly popular racing titles.

Delabs, a new web3 development studio behind RRS, is helmed by Joonmo Kwon (aka JMK), a prominent South Korean businessman and former CEO of gaming giant Nexon with six top-rated blockbuster games to his name. Kwon was one of the first to recognize the potential of mobile gaming under his purview as CEO at Nexon, where he launched the vastly popular game Crazyracing KartRider.

“We are proud to present Rumble Racing Star, a next-gen arcade racing title that features cutting-edge blockchain elements,” said JMK. “Developed by the creators of the megahit racing game KartRider, Rumble Racing Star takes the racing experience to a whole new level with the added features of Web3 NFT technology, allowing players to use their unique skills and items to gain an edge as they speed through the twists and turns of the race track.”

Delabs will also offer players a one-time, limited collection of Adventure Pass NFTs that will grant holders lifetime access to a host of benefits for RRS and all future Delab games. Adventure Pass collectibles will provide early access to Delab games, including RRS, exclusive in-game items, a season pass exchange ticket, as well as access to real-life events and limited merch.

The minting of Adventure Passes will start on April 6 on the official Delabs website, with the allowlist sale beginning at 7 PM EDT. The Adventure Pass collection will be limited to 3,433 NFTs — 3,000 will be available for purchase for allowlist holders only, with another 433 remaining in Delabs’ reserve.

A hands-on PC demo of Rumble Racing Star will be available to all visitors of the Game Developers Conference 2023, held in San Francisco, at the Polygon booth on March 23-24. This demo is a must-try for any racing game enthusiast looking for an adrenaline-fueled experience that showcases the true potential of Web3.

Rumble Racing Star is available for PC at launch.
