Web-based localization solutions provider XLOC has added a new API to its version 4.0 that it says will allow developers to integrate their internal processes and programs with XLOC during development.
According to the company, the API will allow other tools and programs, even proprietary ones, to become a part of XLOC's management processes, with key tasks automated independently.
"Developers can now create or update strings in their own development environment, which will automatically sync to the XLOC system, providing immediate translation availability," explains XLOC co-founder and CTO Mason Deming. "Developers can also integrate fetching into their build process to use the latest translated assets.
According to Deming, the mechanism has already been successfully employed to offer one of XLOC's MMORPG clients a customized, context-sensitive checking tool.
The company describes XLOC as a customizable management solution for integrating localization into development, with the goal of enabling localized versions to ship simultaneously. It says the product synchronizes dynamically with localized resources and generates evolving asset lists, keeping translation efforts separate from asset format specifics.
XLOC also says the product is compatible with "all major 3D engine technologies" and can be used either as a stand-alone product or as part of a larger consulting and support offering. It's been used in titles including Call of Duty: World at War, Guitar Hero: World Tour
and NBA 2K9
