As expected the Xbox outsold the PlayStation 2 in the US during April, after the console’s price was dropped to $149. Xbox sales totalled 270,000 last month, over 70,000 units ahead of the PlayStation 2 and 170,000 ahead of the GameCube.
Such results were widely expected and follow the same pattern as the GameCube’s price cut last year. Microsoft employees however will be hoping that the rise is longer lived than Nintendo’s proved to be.
Microsoft officials have also claimed that the Xbox’s market share has risen in the UK, France and Germany from 23% to 26%. Although, separate reports have indicated that during May sales of the GameCube in the UK outstripped the Xbox for the first time since November, in the wake of the release of
Pokémon Colosseum.
