the weblog of staffer Larry 'Major Nelson' Hryb, Microsoft has announced the top ten Xbox 360 games currently being played over Xbox Live for the week of April 9, 2007, as well as the top titles for the the original Xbox being played over (or while connected to) the online service.
Keeping its long-standing momentum, Microsoft's Epic-developed action shooter
Gears of War once again ranked above all other titles for the Xbox 360 as the most played game over Xbox Live, followed by Ubisoft's stealth action title
Rainbow Six Vegas and the Xbox 360 version of Activision's incredibly popular
Guitar Hero II. The top five titles for the week were rounded out by World War II action shooter
Call of Duty 3 and third person squad-based shooter
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.
Microsoft has charted the top Xbox Live Arcade titles for the week as well, with EA/Pogo and Bizarre Creations' newly released rhythm action game
Boom Boom Rocket,
TMNT 1989 Arcade, and
Luxor 2 ranking as the top three most played XBLA releases. Konami's
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was the fourth most played downloadable title for the week, followed by Team 17's humorous take on annelid action,
Worms.
Turning to the original Xbox,
Halo 2 ranked once again above all other offerings, followed by EA's
Battlefield 2: Modern Combat and the Xbox port of
Counter-Strike. Other top played original Xbox release for the week include LucasArts'
Star Wars Battlefront II as the fourth top played Xbox title for the week, followed by EA's venerable
Madden NFL 07.
Finally, looking to the week of April 9-13, Microsoft has tracked the top video downloads over Xbox Live Marketplace, including both movies and television programs. The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning (Unrated) ranked as the top movie download over the five-day period, followed by the horror/thriller Rest Stop and Oscar winner The Departed. The top television show downloaded over the service was South Park, with Enterprise and Comedy Central Stand Up rounding out the top three weekly TV downloads.
