Officials from Microsoft have announced that the company has reached its June target of one million registered Xbox Live players. According to their statistics players have now logged more than 220 million online sessions, an average of 10.5 million per month. More than 100 games are available to play online and there are now more than 200 pieces of downloadable content available from the service. However, with around 15 million Xboxes sold world-wide this means that only around 6% of Xbox owners have signed up to use Xbox Live. A rather low percentage given that online play is marketed as the console’s major selling point. The PlayStation 2, by comparison, has around 3 million people signed up to its online service, which works out as a mere 4% of their 70+ million user base. Source: Microsoft
