Volunteers from the Chilean Association of Game Developers have launched Rebuild Chile, a puzzle game for PC platforms and Apple mobile devices that raises awareness for victims of the February 27th earthquake and tsunami in the Maule Region of Chile. The 8.8-magnitude earthquake resulted in an estimated death toll of 486 people. The tsunami that followed destroyed several small coastal towns and damaged the port at Talcahuano. Rebuild Chile is a Sokoban-inspired game that challenges players to remove earthquake debris while budgeting enough money to rebuild destroyed homes. Each level begins with a set budget, which drains as players move a bulldozer and call for helicopter support. Skillful removal of debris results in more homes being built at the conclusion of each level. The online Flash version of the game includes 15 free levels, along with an additional 15 stages that are unlocked after players make a donation to Unicef. All 30 levels are included in the $1.99 iPhone app.
