Following recent revelations broken via a detailed investor presentation made available by Vivendi Games, the publisher has officially announced it is partnering with Psychonauts developer Double Fine Productions to produce the studio's next title. The new game, yet unnamed, will be published by Vivendi's Sierra Entertainment label, an imprint the publisher is looking to build with what it refers to as its "all-star team" of external developers, including Day 1 Studios (console versions of F.E.A.R), Starbreeze (previous developer of Chronicles Of Riddick), as well as Snowblind, Timegate, Mad Doc Software, and, of course, Double Fine. Founded by LucasArts veteran Tim Schafer, Double Fine completed the critically acclaimed Psychonauts for a 2005 release by Majesco, after a lengthy interim period seeking a new publisher following Microsoft Game Studios decision to cut the game from its publishing arrangement. Said an atypically straight Tim Schafer, president and CEO of Double Fine Productions, "The Sierra team has been awesome to work with. Everyone we've met brings experience from a small developer background, so they know where we're coming from and what we have to do to make a great game. Combine a developer-friendly attitude, support for innovation, major-publisher status with a worldwide scope and you have a perfect match for Double Fine."
