Organizers of the Digital Game XPO (DGXPO), the Southeast's largest game development conference, announced that Jerry Heneghan, CEO of serious games learning company Virtual Heroes, will deliver the keynote address for the event on Friday, June 23. The Digital Game XPO will be held at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, NC.
Heneghan's presentation, titled "Booming! The Electronic Game Industry", will provide an in-depth look at the career opportunities available for young creative professionals in the video game development industry. He will also discuss how game technology is rapidly moving beyond entertainment and transforming training and education for the military, corporate, education and digital health markets.
"The goals of the DGXPO are perfectly aligned with the mission of Virtual Heroes," said Heneghan. "At Virtual Heroes, we seek to elevate the medium of interactive game technology as a transformational educational tool. We are actively working with educators throughout the Southeast to use games-based learning as a means to inspire and educate students to pursue careers in healthcare and science, technology, engineering, the arts and math (STEAM)."
He added: "To do so, we require the highest caliber of technically and creatively competent candidates. The DGXPO provides us with a means to reach out to students and their instructors."
Jerry Heneghan is the founder and CEO of Virtual Heroes, and served as an executive producer on America's Army
. Prior to founding VHI, Heneghan was program manager in the Technology Assisted Learning Division of the Research Triangle Institute (RTI). During his tenure at RTI, Heneghan was responsible for creating and fielding several new medical training technologies for first responders.
Heneghan also worked as a game producer at Red Storm Entertainment and served as a U.S. Army Aviator (AH-64 pilot) in assignments around the world.
The expo will also be open to the general public, does not require registration and is open to all ages. The event itself will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 23rd and 24th, with further information available via the official website
